Directional, Inc. celebrates its 58th Anniversary this November as one of the longest operating Designer lines of contemporary upholstery. The company was founded in 1950 by the late B. G. Bud Mesberg. An innovator himself, Mesberg was one of the first manufacturers to embrace original furniture design utilizing a stable of designers that today represent a who's who of furniture design talent. Kip Stewart, Paul McCobb, Paul Evans, Tom Prangle, and Vladimir Kagan were early visionaries that called Directional home.
The Mesberg family continued ownership through 3 generations before selling the company to a former Baker Furniture executive in 1994. During the mid to late 1990's, Directional was home to a new stable of design talent including Larry Laslo, Michael Wolk, George Merganov among others. Since it's inception, Directional has maintained showrooms in key design centers including New York, LA, Miami, and Chicago. The interior design community has always been the backbone of Directional's business. Original design and custom quality have been the driving forces behind Directional's international reception as leader in contemporary furniture.
In 2001, the company was purchased by Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth and has operated as the contemporary division of this century old manufacturer of exclusive traditional furniture. The association of these two high end companies has greatly enhanced both firms ability to supply the high end marketplace with products that range from traditional to avant-garde contemporary. Directional's distribution is very selective, selling only to the finest interior design showrooms and their design clientele. Upper end retailers such as Robb and Stucky, Gabberts, Theodores and Design Studio also distribute Directional's fashion forward products. We now invite you to peruse our new website and enjoy the finest in contemporary upholstery.
